Beyond the Mount

Kristen and Don Norton, who also run the Under the Mount accommodation nearby, launched Beyond the Mount in 2023 to guide riders through the Southern Flinders Ranges from Melrose, at the foot of Mount Remarkable. The half- and full-day Meet Melrose tours suit families and first-timers, with bike hire and a local guide included; further out, multi-day routes follow the Mawson Trail, including a six-day, 352-kilometre traverse from Blinman back to Melrose and a shorter Station Action route through gorge country, with First Nations stories woven into the telling. Both hosted and self-guided formats are offered, with shuttle support throughout, and coaching is available from both female and male guides. Best tackled outside the harshest weeks of Flinders summer, when the ranges are at their most rideable. A grounded way to see outback South Australia's gorge country from a saddle rather than a car.
