Dan's Mountain Biking

Dan has guided mountain bike tours out of Cairns since 1993, when his business became Queensland's first mountain bike tour operator permitted to ride inside World Heritage rainforest. Born in Cairns, he represented Australia at the 1996 World Mountain Bike Cross-Country Championships and holds national accreditation as an MTB instructor and commissaire. Tours run from Smithfield Mountain Bike Park — home of Crankworx Cairns — and range out across the Atherton Tablelands and the surrounding World Heritage rainforest, on named runs including the Bloomfield Track, Cape Tribulation, Davies Creek, Black Mountain Road, Bump Track and the CREB Track. Rides are graded two to four and run from half-day to full-day, with custom multi-day itineraries built to order rather than a single fixed route. Three decades on, Dan is still the business's guide, coach and namesake — the same rider who once raced for his country now leading rides through the same rainforest he grew up in.
