Diving
Yongala Dive
Alva Beach, Queensland
The Story
Established in 2003 and built entirely around one wreck, this is the Yongala specialist, running dives to the SS Yongala, often called Australia's largest and most intact historic shipwreck, from the beach at Alva Beach near Ayr. A beach launch and a fast thirty-minute ride get divers out to the site, where trips run two boat dives with a Yongala history talk and qualified guides on hand. Numbers are held to twelve passengers a trip, and as a PADI 5 Star operation it also teaches courses through to Divemaster.
